15th anniversary of St. Catherine’s Guild

15th anniversary of St. Catherine’s Guild (Katariina Gild). The artists of St. Catherine’s Guild are planning to participate in the Design Night by celebrating their 15th anniversary. We will unite our nightly activities by spiritual and physical path of light which will guide the viewers from one object to another. Together we shall walk looking for light in the night and let it guide us in the vast universe of thoughts from one star to another and one sun to another. All of this will take place on 24 September, from 7 till 10 p.m., while the sunlight fades into night.

At the Design Night the Textile Studio will turn from a room of temptations into a theatrical environment. Only the window-sill will be illuminated, with the rest of the room covered up and hidden. The displayed object, Beauty and the Beast, can be smelled, perhaps even seen by the most courageous of us; it is equipped with a soundtrack composed specially for the event. There are five spots of light in the dim Clay Workshop where every artist will create their own ceramic universe. There will be an angel’s nest in the Quilting Workshop. Cheerful-looking quilted angels will take off from the path of light among textiles glimmering in the dark room.

In the Jewellery Workshop the path of light will lead us into the sparkling installation of transparent cubes where we can find jewellery and gems. In the Hat Workshop a giant, man-sized desk lamp will be lit on the path. In another light spot among the darkness of the Glass Workshop we can see bright patterns formed in the co-influence of light and glass. There is some rather natural-looking leather animal trapped in a spot of light of the Leather Workshop. This time, however, things will occur in different temporal order. Namely, tanned leather will be used to reconstruct a possible shape of an animal that once used to wear the material as its fur before the great transformations began. We will try to reconstruct the creature and recreate this cherishable life, although the story itself is rather ghastly. This is a nocturnal tale not recommended for children under 14.
