Since 2006 the Estonian Association of Designers has been giving the Estonian design award BRUNO every two years. On his initiative the faculty was giving out the design award already in the 1980s. Since 2008 the BRUNO Award is also available to enterprises that apply design as a strategic tool to obtain competitive advantage in their activity. For this purpose, the category of Exemplary Design Management was created.Â
Design awards have been previously bestowed to Matti Õunapuu, Heikki Zoova, Martin Pärn, Annike Laigo, Tarmo Luisk and Mare Kelpman. In the category of Exemplary Design Management the award has been given to ByRoller. The association also wishes to introduce new and innovative high standard products to the general public; to encourage Estonians to use local design and stimulate companies and the public sector to involve professional designers in product development. Designers would be motivated by public acknowledgement – and clearly, also by financial support – to create interesting new products and learn about international design trends. The design award also serves as an important springboard to international arena.
