Exhibitions in the Estonian Museum of Applied Art and Design
The following exhibitions are open: “CLASSICS†Rein Mets (1st floor). The exhibition is a cross-section of the spectacular Estonian jewellery art innovator Rein Mets (1942-2011) artwork - there is jewellery, wall plates, objects, sculptures and paintings.
"MODERNIZATION. Baltic art, architecture and design in the 1960s and 1970s " (2nd floor). The exhibition consists of four parts, treating modernization of public space (city) and private space (home), the spread of design (industrial art) and aspects related to consumer habits and lifestyle (free time) in the Baltics.
"MARGINALIA". Minibooks (gallery). Often it is these handwritten jottings on the margins of a book’s pages that give a book its personality, much more important than the text itself. In the exhibition are the Estonian artists small-scale bindings.Â
"ORTO 1932-2012. History in Packages" (foyer). ORTO celebrates its 80th year in business as Estonian oldest cosmetics and home chemistry producer. On the exposition are different product designs which have been for many decades in the everyday environment and also the new products of the leading Estonian cosmetics manufacturer, which are following the so-called “green†trend.Â
"PATTERNS OF TIME 3" (open partly on the 3rd floor). The exposition gives an overview of the developments in Estonian applied art and design from the early 20th century until 1960s.
"LOHE & PUNUD". Textiles in the public spaces (courtyard). Experimental seats and shade made specially for the museum courtyard by the students of the textile and architecture department of the Estonian Academy of Arts.
