Experiments with Light: Art Laboratory
This project is the international satellite project of the Kaunas Biennial TEXTILE’11. A section of the exhibition in Kaunas is brought to Estonia as a part of the Design Night festival. The authors of the Experiments with Light exhibition are the Lithuanian Textile Artists’Guild, BALTA Gallery and the Kaunas Biennial TEXTILE’11. The exhibition features works by artists from Lithuania and other countries. The projectis a continuation from the exhibition Black Light which was started in 2006 by the Textile Artists’ Guild. The exhibition travelled around Lithuania, Germany, Poland, Belarus and Czech Republic and it was very warmly received in all of these countries. The exhibition displays a unique relationship with light – the visitors move aroundin the dark in a room without windows and natural light. The items on show are illuminated by fixed lamps or luminescent lights. The objects stand out in a dark room which cleanses the visual field from unnecessary distractions which might otherwise hinder the experience of viewing the objects. The fixed lamps invite visitors to come into direct contact with the works of art and the luminescent lights remove all possible stimuli from the outside and direct the attention to the objects on show. Thus, the atmosphere in the exhibition room creates a more direct and friendly contact between the visitor and the objects. During the festival, different workshops are held as a part of the interactive Art Laboratory project. |
