Fashion show Fashion design at your service

The fashion event of the Design Night Festival will take place on Saturday, 25 September.

The slogan for this year’s design ideas will be: “Fashion design at your service”. Designs shown on stage carry a specific purpose; they either communicate some deeper message or display a certain practical function. Fashion design does not necessarily mean clothing; it can also refer to the interior design for a luxury yacht based on the sketches by a fashion designer, or even a collection which offers olfactory and taste experiences.

Collection Tatau

Author: Lilli Jahilo

Performance made in cooperation with Hanna Samoson (video) and Teet Kask.

I believe that in today’s globalised world there is a greater need for individual and unique objects. It seems that mass produced items, lacking a soul, no longer meet the requirements of people.
While making hand embroidery and ornaments, I became interested in tattoo art, because their nature and mode of realization are based on similar principles. Figures, techniques and placement are of great significance, but most important still is the unique relationship between the wearer and the element.
With this collection I would like to draw attention to that ancient, intimate art that has stirred up so much discussion throughout the centuries, but has protected its wearers from evil, served as an element of group identity, kept alive memories and symbolised uniqueness. Something similar can be said about hand embroidery too.
Looking at the visual language of tattoos in history, I was most inspired by classical tattoos common in America and Europe during the first half of the previous century, as well as by the images and colours of traditional Japanese tattoos. Thus, I wish to present a staging which would reflect the creation of ornament and the way it is worn today; to show the birth of something unique.

We are at your service, because we are offering values which we believe people currently need: trust in good products and services through unique and elegant high-quality fashion design.

The colour solution of Renewed Estonian Air follows the interior and exterior design of the Estonian Air airplanes dominated by blue. In choosing materials and styles for the new clothes, it was taken into account that the textiles and patterns must be suitable for everyday use and wearers must be able to move comfortably in every situation.Inspiration for the uniforms of our national airline was drawn from the classical fashion line of the 1950s. The author skilfully intertwines soft femininity and masculine refinement with naturalness and national motifs.New designs will be seen on flights from the end of September.

Lamentation of a Modern Bride
Author: Joanna Kivihall
Stage director: Ingel Undusk

We can see models in knitted dresses on stage, reciting Kristiina Ehin’s contemporarily shifted poem about a girl whose mother is preparing for her wedding, whereas she herself has not yet been proposed. The room is dark. Quiet heartbeats can be heard from silence. A girl appears on stage, wearing a slightly transparent long white gown. She is young and graceful. She begins to talk about how she was on an airplane with her mother and how the latter was excitedly telling about her wedding. She herself, however, had only one thing in mind: that no-one had proposed her yet.

The fashion show will be curated by Jaanika Terasmaa.
