Narration in pictures. Estonian alternative comics from the '00s
The Design NIGHT will include an exhibition opening boasting new Estonian auteur comics at the DesignKettle.
The exhibition will be open to the public during the course of the Design NIGHT from the 26th to the 28th of September 2008.
Theses of the exhibition:
a) New Estonian auteur comics are a phenomenon recognizable by its reluctance "to fit into frames", because they aren't "low" commerce neither "high" art found in galleries.
b) New Estonian auteur comics are a phenomenon that is introduced in the album titled "Narration in Pictures. Estonian Alternative Comics from the '00s" (Estonian Academy of Arts, 2007), the second edition of which is already in development.
c) New Estonian auteur comics are a phenomenon that has been compiled by Joonas Sildre and Andreas Trossek from several different graphic novels.
d) New Estonian auteur comics are a phenomenon that would not exist without Edvin Aedma, Kinnas, Kristel Maamägi, Marianne Männi, Tarmo Salin, Elina Sildre, Joonas Sildre, Margus Tamm, Veiko Tammjärv, Paco Ulman et al.
e) New Estonian auteur comics are a phenomenon that has its own background and overly long micro-history that no one should bother to look into...
