Tanel Veenre's lecture
Secret door to the world of jewellery During the Design Night, the biggest design festival in Tallinn, Tanel Veenre will hold a lecture titled Small Large Worlds of Imagination in IIDA Gallery (Suur-Karja 2) on 24 September at 6 p.m.
The lecture aims to take a look inside the secret chest of contemporary Estonian jewellery, where everything is possible and things that are small and fragile can suddenly become big and important. Many young jewellery artists are considerably better known outside Estonia, as the tradition of innovative author’s jewellery is still rather undeveloped here. With this lecture we will try to explore the individual ways of thinking behind jewellery and to show a variegated selection of different approaches to it, be it Eve Margus-Villems’ meticulous bone carvings that draw their power from nature, or Birgit Skolimowski’s historically inspired romantic trinkets. The lecture will offer a rare opportunity to peek inside a mysterious world where gems will become bright stars and ebony will form the dark vaults of heaven. Modern jewellery is meant for people that have not yet lost their ability to dream. The lecture will serve as a sort of closing ceremony for Tanel Veenre’s exhibition Dust, Universe and Queen which has been extended until 26 September due to warm reception and endless transformations (several pieces have already been sold and replaced by new ones). IIDA Gallery, established by the fashion designer Kristina Viirpalu, stands out with its fascinating, chic and professional selection of young Estonian jewellery. The lecture is free for everyone! However, as the gallery space is truly small and accommodates only up to 40 persons, we kindly ask you to register in advance: kristinaviirpalu@mac.com.
