Design Night 2013 fashion programme
The Design Night fashion programme follows the theme of the autumn design festival. We examine the boundaries between different approaches to textile through the rich imagination and innovativeness of local fashion designers. Articles of clothing do not have to serve only the function of covering up the body in an aesthetically pleasing way. Garments and their production can be, amongst other things, a way of saving the local economy or even the world. A piece of clothing can also be a work of art which offers deep emotional pleasure.
Designers experiment with people’s relationship with their surroundings which also include clothes aka the textiles which cover our bodies aka the spatial composition of garments. Heritage is conveyed in materials or in the way of thinking – saying “yes“ to unique, local and valuable custom-made products which last and are suitable whenever and wherever. Our designers’ creative endeavours and experiments with both local and distant Asian technologies and textiles are not just part of a one-off project but attract prospective partners around the world.

The fashion programme is brought to you thanks to good partners: The Body Shop, Kevin Murphy, A. Le Coq, Mistra, Trendexpress, Sireli talu, Shell, Living Models, USL Invest. Â
THURSDAY Reet Aus has already broken many boundaries and is successfully developing quality design solutions from materials which have not been considered valuable but which are the sources of large-scale problems.
FRIDAY Xenia Joost and her original couture-like clothes are making their way towards foreign markets. The progressive new designer is an example of how determined diligence helps to build an ambitious enterprise.Â
SATURDAY FASHION TRINITY The Saturday three-part fashion show takes the audience on an imaginary trip to the roots of materials and creation. After that, it climbs up the trunk to the top where the fruits of wearing pleasure can be enjoyed. The show is divided into three parts where every act takes place in a different environment which supports and emphasises the ideas of the authors of the collections. Director Henri Hütt.
In addition to that, the Saturday fashion show breaks one more simple and earthly boundary – these three fascinating collections can be enjoyed in the Garden of Tallinn Creative Hub for free.
Places have to be booked in advance before September 27 by emailing mood@disainioo.ee
FIRST ACT – k00d.ee The first part consists of timeless materials and techniques which defy the danger of silently fading away. Handicraft techniques which were once practiced everywhere around the country have now become a coded secret language known by only a chosen few. Fortunately they are being talked about and learned again. We try to search for the roots of these techniques and materials.
The unique clothing brand k00d.ee works with our local raw material – wool.
SECOND ACT – #jonurm The essential algorithm – a rhythm which our homeland has produced for hundreds of years – evolves from the silent breathing of life. Machines have turned nature into commodities. People cannot live without clothes which means that we have to sacrifice a part of nature in order to subsist. Let’s give the products back their anonymous depth, let’s take time to look at and wear our clothes. Let’s preserve timelessness and quality.
Johanna Nurm, a young budding fashion designer, shows the audience her intricate but at the same time minimalist works.Â
THIRD ACT – MARIT ILISON Works of art do not know any boundaries or rules. Experimental fashion design includes the surrounding sounds, lights, objects and space. Quality fashion design can offer an experience for everyone. The boundary between the observer and the observed loses its meaning.
Marit Ilison’s works can be seen at Design Night on two different occasions – at the exhibition at HOP Gallery which is opened on Thursday and in the Garden of Tallinn Creative Hub on Saturday. Ilison’s abstract and experimental fashion shows have manifested themselves in front of our eyes in the past and will definitely also provide pleasure this time around.
SUNDAY “ÖÖRÄNDUR†(“Traveller of the Nightâ€) At Design Night festival, the rustic and exuberant works by Liisa Soolepp and Marta Cycles alias Marta Moorats are displayed at a joint fashion show. The uniqueness of the clothes by Marta Cycles lies in the fabric she uses which exceeds all human boundaries of speed, height and distance and conquers the sky. The extremely durable parachute-fabric is given a completely new life. Director Kadri Noormets
